That's easier on your wallet and on the environment because there's less packaging waste - and you won't run out so quickly. Fancy something (naturally) sweet? At KoRo you can conveniently order dried fruits online!

Is dried fruit as healthy as fresh fruit?

You are probably wondering why you should order dried fruit from us at all when you can also eat fresh fruit. We have a few good reasons:

  1. Taste: Dried fruit has a lower water content than fresh fruit. Among other things, this intensifies the taste. Even watermelon, which often tastes watery, becomes a real taste explosion when dried. And dried papaya is a fruity-sweet gummy bear substitute - without any added sugar*! Unlike many industrially processed sweets, most dried fruits are low-fat or even fat-free snacks.

  2. Fibre: The gentle drying process also increases the concentration of all the other ingredients. Dried fruit, such as our apple chips or dried unsulphured apricots, often score high in fibre. You would have to eat a lot of fresh fruit to get the same amount. Dried fruit can help you reach the DGE recommended guideline for fibre intake of at least 30 g per day.

  3. Natural sweetness: The sugars naturally present in dried fruit are a great alternatives to refined table sugar. High-quality dried fruit, for example in the form of our date paste, is therefore wonderfully suitable for sweetening cakes, desserts and smoothie bowls. The taste of dried fruit in your creations is rarely distracting, but rather enriching due to its natural sweetness.

  4. Shelf life: Half-green bananas bought and over night they have ripened into deep brown specimens that you have to use up all at once? That doesn't happen with our dried banana . The fruit's own sugar acts as a natural preservative during the (freeze-)drying/drying of fresh fruit and makes dried fruit long-lasting without artificial additives. In addition, preservation allows you to enjoy your favourite fruit, such as dried strawberries , in dried form even out of season.

Buy dried fruits in large-sized bags

The drying process removes the water component of your fruits, allowing them not only to become incredible concentrates, but also to last much longer. As a consequence of such an amazing transformation, you can buy large amounts of dried fruits without having to worry that they might go bad.

With our bulk-size packaging we want to reduce transport-related emissions and packaging waste as well, and of course provide you with enough of your favourite products! All these precautions enable us to lower our prices compared to supermarkets.

The list of dried fruit you can buy at KoRo is incredibly long: we have over 80 different products in our dried fruit selection. Along with regular dried fruit, you will also find freeze-ried fruit, puffed dried fruit, freeze-dried fruit powders as well as an entire category dedicated to our dates. The finest fruit powder made from 100 % freeze-dried fruit

In addition to conventional dried and freeze-dried fruits, we also have freeze-dried fruit powder in stock for you. To be able to make delicious fruit smoothies and fruity cakes all year round, we dry fruits using the freeze-drying process. We then grind the dried fruit into a fine dried fruit powder. With our freeze-dried mango powder, you can make a fruity-fresh mango lassi all year round. But our fruit powder is also ideal for baking and can be used as a natural colouring agent. And with our fine organic açaí powder, you can whip up a delicious superfood bowl for breakfast in no time at all. As you can see, dried fruits can do more than just serve as a snack.

Natural dried fruits

We at KoRo always try to avoid as much as possible to add anything to our products. Therefore, almost all our dried fruits are free from added sugar and sulphur.

Dried fruits: sulphured or not?

What is the matter with sulphur? Should dry fruits contain it or not? Dried fruits are treated with sulphur to make them last longer, and often to maintain their bright colours. You can tell that our dried apricots are not treated with sulphur from their darker colour. Sulphur is not unhealthy or harmful, but we believe that our dried fruit is perfect just the way it is, without any additives. Hence is our dried fruit generally free from sulphur, and even so keeps very long!

Dried fruit with no added sugar*

Through the gentle drying process our fruits are deprived of their water content; this is the reason why the amount of sugar increases r – along with the taste. Therefore we think that our fruit is perfect and delicious even without any added sugar. In the few cases where we thought that some fruit did need a little help, we make it extra clear, like for our cranberries sweetened with pineapple concentrate

Preparing dried fruit

As already mentioned, we have all kinds of dried fruits for you in our assortment. In the following section, we explain how we produce and prepare the dried fruits.

Making your own dried fruit?

Drying fruit yourself at home is energy- and time-consuming. That's why we do it for you and dry the fruit for you in special dehydrators, removing the liquid from the fruit - this preserves it and gives it its unique consistency.

For that extra crunch: puffed dried fruit

Crunchy like your popcorn, fruity-sweet like your favourite fruit. In this type of drying, our fruits are dehydrated in 1-3 minutes by a vacuum. The water contained in the fruit evaporates explosively due to the sudden change in pressure and "puffs" - the fruit puffs up slightly and remains in this state. Convince yourself of the special consistency and the great taste with our puffed cherries, physalis or black currants.

Another method: buy freeze-dried fruit

Finally, we introduce you to a particularly gentle preservation method: freeze-drying. Before drying, our fruits are shock-frozen. Then, with the help of a vacuum, almost all the moisture is removed from them over a period of hours. We use this process for our freeze-dried wild blueberries, for example. It has several advantages: Colour, shape and taste are almost completely preserved. The fruits also have a much longer shelf life because the water content is so low.

Soaking dried fruit — why?

Dried fruit can be soaked before consumption to make it easier to process. After soaking our dried blueberries, you can make a delicious jam in no time. Soaking the dried fruit makes it softer and therefore easier to chew. For example, you can soak our dried mango strips in water for 30 minutes before eating them. Soaking freeze-dried fruit almost returns it to its original shape. Try it with our freeze-dried peaches.

Dried fruits as topping

We find dried fruits to be the prettiest topping for your muesli or breakfast bowls. You can cut them into smaller pieces and sprinkle them over your dishes. Thanks to the wonders of the drying process, you can enjoy tasty fruit all year round, independently from the season: we know how hard it can be, to miss strawberries in winter! Our freeze-dried strawberries taste as delicious and sweet as the fresh ones, and will bring a taste of summer to your muesli even when it’s snowing outside your window.

Delicious recipes with dried fruits

If you need more inspiration, you can browse through the recipes section on our website. A few ideas: if using dried fruits for creating a unique muesli is too simple for you,  try make them the star of your savoury dishes. Dried apricots can be used for an unforgettable Arabic lentil salad; freeze-dried strawberries and dried goji berries can upgrade your homemade energy bars; and each of the fruit powders of our selection will bring a touch of colour and happiness to your recipes – why not try to make pink cookie dough bites?

All your questions about dried fruits

We want to give you all the information you might need on how to use our dried fruits. If you have questions about a specific kind, we may suggest you to check its specifications on the product page. In case you don't find your answers there, do not hesitate to contact us per email or on our social media pages: we are always happy to help you.

How do I correctly store dried fruit?

To ensure the longest shelf-life for your favourite dried fruits, you have to know how to store them. The best way is to keep them in an airtight glass container placed in a cool and dry place of your kitchen. If stored correctly, dried fruits can keep for up to two years! That is, if you can resist them for such a long time.

Are dried fruits healthy?

Asking yourself if dried fruit can be healthy is definitely legitimate. Dried fruits maintain most of their nutrients intact, especially if they have undergone the freeze-drying process, which is particularly good for preserving vitamins. Generally, dried fruit can be part of a healthy and balanced diet, but it should not substitute fresh fruit.

Does dried fruit help with weight loss?

If you are trying to lose weight, the most important thing you have to consider is your calorie intake. Dried fruit can be part of your diet even if you want to lose weight, but you should always pay attention not to consume too much of it, as dried fruit is very energy-dense and high-sugar. If you are avoiding refined sugar in order to aid weight loss, dried fruits are definitely a great alternative to industrial sweets, and can help you balance and integrate your diet.

Does dried fruit keep the vitamin?

Fresh fruit is rich in vitamins, that's no secret. You are probably wondering what the situation is like with dried fruit in terms of vitamins. The good news is that even after drying, dried fruit still contains a large part of its nutritional value. Our organic açaí powder, consisting of dried açai berries, is rich in vitamin C and iron. Our organic berry smoothie bowl is a source of vitamin C - as is our organic camu camu powder.

Why does dried fruit have more calories than fresh fruit?

100 g of dried fruit have considerably more calories than their fresh counterpart. The reason for this is that dried fruits have lost almost all their water, which is the main component of fresh fruit. Therefore, the concentration of nutrients and calories is higher in dried fruits.

Do dried fruits have an influence on digestion?

If you browse the web, you will stumble upon this question time and again. The key for a healthy digestion is to eat a healthy and high-fibre diet; therefore dried fruits, being naturally very fibre rich, can be a great addition to a diverse and healthy diet. Our dried plums are some of the best dried fruits for the nourishment of a happy and healthy gut microbiome.

Can infants eat dried fruits?

It is suggested that infants start to get used to eating and enjoying dried fruits like raisins. However, as dried fruits contain high amounts of sugar, young children should not eat too much of them.

Can pregnant women eat dried fruits?

Women can certainly eat dried fruits in moderation during pregnancy. As the energy needs of pregnant women are slightly higher, small portions of dried fruits can be a great way to meet their indicated calorie goals.

Is dried fruit alkaline?

Yes, dried fruits are alkaline. They are therefore suitable for people following an alkaline diet.

Can I give my dog dried fruits?

Generally yes, dogs can eat dried fruits. If you want to give some dried fruit to your furry friend, you should mix tiny amounts of it to their food, or give them a few bites as a treat. Be careful to not give them too much, though, as dried fruit is very high-sugar! It might be best to ask your veterinary, if you are uncertain about the amounts.

*Our dried fruit naturally contains sugar. As the sugar content is concentrated to up to 70% due to the removal of water during drying, dried fruit should only be consumed in moderation (especially by children) in the sense of a needs-oriented diet. Individual nutritional information, such as sugar content, calories and carbohydrates, can be found on the respective product detail pages.
