Actually, you don't have to do anything harder than heat up a pot of water and throw the beans in. The cooking time is usually around 60 minutes, but can be shortened by soaking the beans beforehand; soaking legumes will make them not only faster to cook, but also easier to digest. When it comes to beans, you shouldn't underestimate one point – playing with salt. For pasta, rice, or potatoes, you usually add salt to the water beforehand, while with white beans you add it at the end – otherwise the shell of the bean will remain rock-hard. This makes the delicious legumes even easier to digest.

You will need:

First, you soak the white beans in cold water overnight, so that you can start right away the next day. Boil the soaked beans for about 30 minutes, pour out the water, and set them aside. Cut the onion into small pieces, fry it, and, as soon as it is translucent, add the remaining ingredients including the beans. Now you let it simmer again for about 30 minutes and voilà!, your homemade baked beans are ready to be enjoyed.

Can these white beans be eaten reaw?

Here you get a very clear one from us - no. You really shouldn't eat white beans or any other leagumes raw! You can play with the texture depending on how long you cook them, but the cooking is part of the program: please do cook these beans before you eat them!

How do I prepare these beans?

Since our white beans come to you dry, you have to cook them before you eat them - and not too briefly either. For optimal results, we recommend soaking the beans overnight, and then cooking them however you prefer for around 60 minutes. This not only shortens the cooking time, but makes the beans also more digestible.

Do white beans cause bloating?

As with many things, it depends on you and your circumstances. If you generally consume little fibre and are therefore not used to it, don't cook the beans long enough, or eat too large a portion of them - then yes, gas can be a "side effect".

Can I plant these white beans?

Well, now you've caught us: we admit that our thumbs are not particularly green, so we have not tried to, but we would love to see what happens! There is nothing wrong with these beans. If you soaked them overnight, they are cooked relatively quickly the next day. Especially if you add 1 tsp of baking soda to the cooking water. (approx. 30 min. cooking time)
