Everything at a glance Organic cocoa beans 1 kg

As long as cocoa grows on trees, chocolate is a fruit, that's fairly obvious! It might not be exactly like that, but the cocoa bean can do a lot more than just become chocolate. You will find several cocoa products in our shop, including organic cocoa nibs, organic cocoa butter, organic de-oiled cocoa powder and partly de-oiled cocoa powder. Our whole cocoa beans are not just great to process or for baking, they are also a great snack! Buy organic cocoa beans in the convenient 1 kg value pack now!

The cocoa factsheet: Production & processing

Cocoa was used for human consumption as early as 1000 BC. The origin of this probably lies in Central America. Cocoa beans are the seeds of the cocoa fruit. The yellowish, oval fruit grows at temperatures of around 30 °C on the cocoa tree - more precisely, on the trunk of the tree. When harvested, the fruit is taken from the tree with machetes and sickle sticks, then opened and stored for fermentation. This is necessary to ensure the desired flavour. The white beans also change their colour to brown here. During the fermentation process, it gets quite warm between the beans and the moist cocoa beans must then be placed in the sun again to dry. After drying - which can take several weeks - the beans are roasted. Then the beans are either sent to us at KoRo or perhaps to Charlie's chocolate factory, where the cocoa beans are crushed and ground. The grinding generates heat, the cocoa butter melts and the final cocoa mass can be processed into chocolate or cocoa powder. So you see, a lot has to happen before you can enjoy your hot cocoa or chocolate bar!

What can I do with whole cocoa beans?

Even the Aztecs knew that cocoa was the food of the gods and goddesses. It is not only the taste that is divine, but also the variety of uses. You can do more than just snack on our cocoa beans straight from the bag. We admit that the tart taste takes a little getting used to, but it can soothe your sweet tooth quite well. You can also eat sweet fruit with it or simply garnish your muesli with some cocoa. Have you ever made your own cocoa drink? Roast the beans in a pan and then separate the shell. Then just grind the beans and mix with a spoonful of sugar or spices of your choice to taste. Then pour in hot water, hot milk (or oat drink for the vegan version) and the delicious chocolate drink is ready. It's not only good for breakfast, but also tastes great before bedtime. You can make it even easier for yourself by simply ordering our cocoa powder in the online shop. You can find out more exciting facts in our blog entry about cocoa.

Varieties and origins

Native to Central America, where it was already cultivated in the Mayan era, cocoa was for a very long time a delicacy accessible only to the upper classes. Later, from 19th century onwards, cocoa began to be cultivated intensively, so as to allow the whole world to enjoy its unique taste in many different variations. Ivory Coast is the world's leading cocoa producer, followed by Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Brazil and other countries. More than 5 million tons of cocoa are harvested each year worldwide. Did you know that about 50 cocoa beans are needed for a bar of chocolate?

What is the KoRo price chart?

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
  • Communication Icon

Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?

Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

Fantastic quality!

I am a big fan of cocoa beans and have therefore already enjoyed various products, including really high-priced chocolate manufacturers. The Koro cocoa beans but have already blown me away at the sight: really big intact beans, no breakage, wonderful color. The aroma that hit me when I opened the well resealable package: just wonderfully chocolaty, not sour at all.
After tasting the first bean, I am completely convinced: these are the best cocoa beans I have ever had! Crisp, fresh, incredibly aromatic. The consistency has almost something creamy melting. Best cocoa taste without bitter notes, really incredibly delicious.
I now treat myself to a small portion every evening, which I crunch purely in front of me, as I find them much too bad to process in anything.

Decent quality

The beans are tasty as expected and "crumble" nicely, but are not worth it after the last price increase of over 42% (!!!) compared to the organic goods from the supermarket.

That makes happy

This fragrance when opening the bag was scheinmalig lig. Since the first bean had to go directly into the mouth. Since you need no more chocolate. Delicious everywhere too. In the picture I got some out and also crushed. I grind them in my flaker. Super product at a super price

best snack ever ...

For me the new discovery of the year. Raw or roasted. Have otherwise 90% cocoa chocolate eaten - now 100% natural - and depending on the mood times ne date to it or nuts. I no longer buy packaged chocolate in the house. I am thrilled.

When you open the bag, a pleasant cocoa smell immediately flows into the nose. Am very curious how the cocoa beans can be processed. The solve ausbaden shell goes very well! Taste slightly bitter and aromatic.
