What is cardamom?

You have often come across it on the ingredient list of your favourite dishes - such as our spiced speculoos or the ginger chocolate fudge energy balls - and yet you never really knew what cardamom actually is? We'd like to solve the riddle for you: cardamom, which shares its throne as king with vanilla, the "queen of spices", belongs to the ginger family and is said to have been cultivated in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The actual spice is hidden in the seeds, which are located in the plant's trifoliate capsule fruits. There are two different varieties of cardamom, which differ in taste: the green and the black. The predominantly used green cardamom has a fresh, sweetish-pungent taste that is slightly reminiscent of eucalyptus. If you combine it with aromatic cinnamon and mix the heavenly spice duo with roasted Arabica beans, the result is our delicious organic coffee Cinnamon & Cardamom!

To make your coffee with cardamom and cinnamon a complete taste experience, the aromatic Arabica beans are first roasted at a temperature of about 200 °C for about 16-18 minutes. Because good things take time, the roasted beans are given a day's rest before they are finely ground and finally mixed with the powdered cinnamon and cardamom aroma.

Once it has arrived, all you have to do is prepare the ground, flavoured roasted coffee: For one cup (125 ml) you need about 7-8 g of powder. Of course, you can vary the amount depending on your taste. Due to the fine grind, the cinnamon-cardamom coffee is particularly suitable for the filter machine or French press, as this is the best way to develop its full aroma.

How much coffee a day is recommended?

The general recommendation is a maximum of four to five cups of coffee per day, although individual tolerance can vary greatly.

Is flavored coffee unhealthy?

At KoRo, we principally refrain from dividing food into healthy and unhealthy. After all, healthy is first and foremost a balanced and varied diet and a corresponding lifestyle. The tolerance of coffee can vary greatly from person to person. Therefore, as always: 'Balance is key'!

Can I drink the organic coffee cinnamon and cardamom during pregnancy?

Our cinnamon cardamom coffee contains caffeine. The European Food Safety Authority advises pregnant women not to exceed 200 mg of caffeine per day. This is equivalent to about two small cups (200 ml each) of filter coffee. If you feel unsure, it is best to seek additional medical advice.
