Ghee is also known as 'gold' and is called 'knowledge of life' in the traditional Indian language. An Indian kitchen staple, ghee is also used with medicinal purposes. In the Western world we know ghee as a clarified butter.

There are many different ways to manufacture ghee; we are proud to say that we stick to the traditional way, in which the butter is gently cooked and then melted at a very low temperature. Heated up to about 90°C afterwards, its water content volatilizes, this allows the foam and butter flakes to be skimmed. Finally, our ghee is bottled into a glass.

Is the clarified butter vegan?

No, the clarified butter comes from animal origin: butter consists mainly of fats from milk. Since clarified butter is made from butter, the fat portion here also comes from cow's milk. But you prefer a vegan diet? No problemo! We have a vegetable alternative for you: Ghee from olive oil from controlled organic cultivation!

What is special about KoRo's organic ghee?

Our ghee - or also called clarified butter - consists of 100% clarified butter in organic quality. The ghee was produced by means of a boiling process and is available in 420 g jars as well as in the 6 x 420 g tray available.

What is the best way to store the clarified butter?

To make your organic ghee last as long as possible, store it at room temperature (20-25°C) and away from light. If you store it a little too warm, it can liquefy. But no worries: If you put it in the refrigerator for a few hours, it will solidify again! After opening, you should always store the ghee in the refrigerator.

What can the clarified butter be used for?

The smoke point of ghee is quite high, so it can be heated more than butter, for example. Thus, ghee is ideal for baking, frying and deep-frying. Due to its spreadable consistency, you can also spread it on your bread. So there are no limits to the use of ghee: whether it's for casseroles, Risotto or vegetable pan - all benefit from our organic quality clarified butter!

What is the shelf life of organic ghee?

The best-before date of your clarified butter is 9 months from the date of production. Prerequisite: It is kept sealed in the original jar. You can find the best before date on the edge of the lid of your jar.

Is ghee healthier than butter?

In short, ghee is butter from which protein, lactose and water have been removed. What remains: 100% clarified butter! This makes ghee almost lactose-free (< 0.1 g/100 g). In addition, thanks to the high smoke point, it can be heated more than butter and is therefore better suited for frying and deep-frying. However, what is primarily healthy is a varied diet and an appropriate lifestyle. At KoRo, we refrain on principle from dividing food into the categories "healthy" and "unhealthy". Consumed in moderation, both - ghee and butter - can correspond to a balanced diet.
