In Thailand, taking durian into the metro, hotels or airplanes is illegal. While opinions are divided on the so-called "stink fruit," the Southeast Asian flora has yet another confusingly similar fruit to offer - whose general popularity is undisputed: in its Asian homeland, ripe jackfruit is valued primarily as an aromatic fruit. Over here, the tropical fruit attracts attention when it is unripe. Because of its meat-like consistency, young jackfruit has the reputation of being the perfect vegetable meat alternative. With the help of a spicy marinade, the exotic fruit becomes a hearty treat that you have to try! With us you can order young jackfruit pickled in brine.
What is jackfruit?
The jackfruit tree is a plant species in the mulberry family and is native to India. Jackfruit is considered the largest tree fruit in the world and can weigh up to 40 kg. Ripe jackfruit tastes similar to a mix of pineapple and banana. The fruity pulp is eaten as a snack in Asia. It is also dried and offered as jackfruit crisps. The special feature: jackfruit can also be eaten unripe. In Southeast Asian cuisine, the young fruits are peeled and prepared like vegetables in various cooked dishes. Since unripe jackfruit strongly resembles chicken meat in its consistency - and is a real source of protein and fibre - the low-calorie fruit has recently become a vegan meat substitute over here in Europe.
Preparing young jackfruit
Those who know KoRo know that we keep our ears - or rather our taste buds - perked up when it comes to innovative food trends. We don't have to surf along on every hype wave. However, we have found jackfruit pickled in brine to be as simple as it is ingenious: our soft jackfruit doesn't need to be cooked before use. Just put the contents of the bag into a sieve, rinse the jackfruit thoroughly and then squeeze it out. Then you can start marinating or seasoning the flesh extensively before sautéing the young jackfruit with any other ingredients. Once cooked, the consistency is reminiscent of pulled pork or chicken - however, it is a purely vegetable component that adds texture to hearty dishes.
Jackfruit recipes: from jackfruit goulash to jackfruit burger
While the ripe tropical fruit tastes sweet and makes a great snack, our young jackfruit is a hearty kitchen addition. Pickled in brine, the soft jackfruit makes a wonderful vegetable meat substitute in spicy goulash and curry dishes. Young jackfruit can also be used for innovative pulled jackfruit burgers or as a gyros substitute on a vegan kebab plate, it lives up to its reputation as the perfect meat alternative. Since the unripe harvested jackfruit hardly brings its own flavor, it is important to marinate the flesh - similar to tofu - extensively before processing. The best way to do this is to marinate the soft jackfruit overnight in BBQ sauce, for example. Then, in addition to its unique consistency, the young jackfruit can also stand out with a spicy taste.

Jackfruit, water, a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon: with 26 kcal and less than one gram of fat per 100 g, our pickled jackfruit is a low-calorie and low-fat meat alternative. At the same time, jackfruit contains important dietary fiber, which real meat completely lacks. Mind-blowing extra: its meat-like consistency. "Why do you vegans always have to imitate meat and sausage?" we can already hear your friends grumbling, unable to admit that they love your pulled jackfruit burger. Varieties and origins

Jackfruit pickled
The unripe fruit of the jackfruit tree is peeled and pickled in brine. After that, it can be used like vegetables or fruits in savory and sweet dishes. The pickled pulp from our store has hardly any flavor of its own and can be marinated as desired.
Jackfruit dried
Dried by the sun, the jackfruit has a very exotic and fruity aroma. Due to the pleasant sweetness, you can use the dried giant fruit pure, as a snack, in muesli or for baking. You can also find jackfruit in dried form in our store. Jackfruit chips
Raw Jackfruit
When the jackfruit is ripe, it can also be eaten in its raw state. To do this, the inner, yellowish flesh is removed and seeded. In terms of taste, the ripe jackfruit resembles a combination of banana and pineapple.
Jacknuts
The seeds of the jackfruit become edible through cooking and roasting. For example, they end up in curries or are made into flour. The taste is reminiscent of the aroma of chestnuts.

What is the KoRo price chart?
In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles. -
Why is the price fluctuating?
Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers. -
Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?
Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

Soft jackfruit 350 g - a look behind the scenes

Questions about questions Soft jackfruit 350 g
What makes KoRo's jackfruit special?
Jackfruit, water, a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon juice: just four ingredients go into our bag. This makes our pickled jackfruit a natural alternative to often highly processed meat substitutes. Thanks to its neutral flavor and firm consistency, our young jackfruit marinates beautifully and can be used as a textural meat alternative in savory dishes. Whether in chicken fricassee, curry or as a burger patty - there are no limits to your creativity with soft jackfruit. In addition to its meat-like consistency, our low-calorie jackfruit convinces with fiber and a high protein content.
Where does KoRo's jackfruit come from?
Jackfruit is typically grown in mixed crops. The country of origin of our jackfruit is Thailand. There, the jackfruit is harvested unripe, peeled and pickled in brine while still on site.
How many calories are in jackfruit?
Our pickled jackfruit has 26 calories (kcal) per 100 grams. You can find the other nutritional values of our jackfruit next to/below the product description and on the product packaging.
Is jackfruit good for weight loss?
Weight loss goals are primarily achieved through a daily calorie deficit. With 26 kcal and 1.5 g of carbohydrates per 100 g, our pickled jackfruit is low in calories and can even be integrated into your low carb diet.
Jackfruit vs. Durian - what is the difference?
A jackfruit is a jackfruit and not a durian! Granted: A durian is also a large and exotic fruit and looks confusingly similar to the jackfruit. However, the smell of the durian is rather strong and its taste - in contrast to that of the sweet jackfruit - is literally a matter of taste. This often earns the durian nicknames such as "stink fruit" or "vomit fruit". The taste of the ripe jackfruit, on the other hand, is reminiscent of a mix of pineapple and banana. Harvested unripe and pickled in brine, our soft jackfruit is almost tasteless. Thus, our young jackfruit can be marinated and used as a vegan meat substitute.
Is pickled jackfruit vegan?
Yes, jackfruit, water, a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon juice: our pickled jackfruit is a purely vegetable meat substitute. This makes our soft jackfruit a great ingredient for a vegan jackfruit curry.
Can the jackfruit cause allergic reactions?
Besides young jackfruit, our packs contain water, salt and citric acid. Experience has shown that people with allergies or sensitivities to birch pollen and tropical fruits such as pineapple, kiwi or mulberries may be allergic to ripe jackfruit. The extent to which our unripe harvested and pickled jackfruit may cause intolerances or allergic reactions in individual cases must be carefully tested. While ripe jackfruit is very sweet and contains a correspondingly high amount of fructose, people with a fructose intolerance can access our young jackfruit without worrying. Our pickled jackfruit has 0.4 g fructose per 100 g. At the moment we cannot make any representative statements about the histamine content of the jackfruit.
What is the shelf life and what is the best way to store pickled jackfruit?
The soft jackfruit can be kept for at least 18 months in its original sealed packaging if stored correctly. Our pickled jackfruit can be stored unrefrigerated at room temperature.
Is jackfruit healthy?
Healthy is first and foremost a balanced and wholesome diet - which, among other things, covers important nutrients and vitamins as needed. Our soft jackfruit can contribute to a healthy diet as a source of fiber and protein.
What does jackfruit taste like?
How jackfruit tastes depends crucially on its degree of ripeness: Ripe jackfruit has a sweet, pineapple-like flavor and is prized in its Asian homeland as an aromatic fruit or dried snack. Young jackfruit - like ours - tends to be tasteless. This makes our young jackfruit wonderful for marinating and using in savory dishes as a flavorful meat substitute.
How do I prepare the soft jackfruit?
Our soft jackfruit does not need to be cooked before use. Just put the contents of the bag into a sieve, rinse the jackfruit thoroughly and then squeeze it out. Then you can start seasoning or marinating the flesh for about 20 minutes before frying the young jackfruit. Since the unripe harvested jackfruit hardly brings its own flavor, it is important to marinate the flesh - similar to tofu - really extensively before processing. It's best to soak the soft jackfruit overnight in BBQ sauce, for example. You can also marinate our soft jackfruit in a tomato-based Mediterranean marinade and, of course, in any spicy proprietary creation. For an oriental touch, mix the following ingredients and marinate the drained jackfruit in it before sautéing: 3 tbsp organic tahini*. 2 tbsp. soy sauce 1 tbsp. sweetener (e.g., organic agave syrup) 1 tbsp. paprika seasoning Some salt & pepper *Also tastes super yummy with other nut butter marinade!
Can I eat jackfruit while pregnant?
As long as you eat our soft jackfruit in normal amounts during pregnancy, we don't see a problem with it.However, if you are unsure, you should always seek the advice of your doctor.
Why don't you sell jackfruit in a can?
At KoRo, we strive for efficiency in order to offer you the best quality at the lowest price. For this reason, our soft jackfruit has been chosen for our plastic packaging, rather than the more common canned variety. In terms of shelf life, the airtight bag is in no way inferior to the can. Our pickled jackfruit can be kept for at least 18 months in the original sealed packaging if stored properly. The jackfruit can be stored unrefrigerated at room temperature.
What can I use the pickled jackfruit for?
Jackfruit is an exotic meat substitute. Accordingly, you can also be creative in its preparation. Whether as a jackfruit goulash, formed into jackfruit burger patties, or used as a textural curry ingredient, we love to experiment with our soft jackfruit and different marinades. Our current favorite jackfruit recipe: potato strips with jackfruit. The tender jackfruit meat falls apart in a similar way to pulled pork. By the way, the spicy jackfruit cut-up also tastes super delicious in tacos!

Tasty, super product, good price

There is still something to do with the packaging.
Do not really look satisfactory in the packaging. Maybe here is the possibility also to glaze the packaging with glass. Taste jackfruit is good.

Hello dear customer, thank you for the feedback regarding the packaging. We will pass this on to you. Kind regards, Your KoRo team
To be on the safe side, I looked it up in the dictionary. Hence my question: how should one be able to "glaze" with glass? A glaze is a protective layer, for example, for wood planks or even paintings. However, I would support a jar sealed by vacuum for the jackfruit preserve ;)
