The mate shrub, from the holly family, is native to South America. The name of the tea comes not from the plant itself, but from the vessel, a "callabasse", in which the tea is prepared and which is called "mate" in Spanish.

Our mate leaves grown in Brazil are finely cut and gently roasted over a fire. This is how the incomparable, aromatic roasting aroma is created, which is reminiscent of a mixture of black tea and coffee. This folk speciality from South America contains caffeine, which is why mate is stimulating and refreshing. Roasted mate is not only popular because of its smoky - spicy, slightly bitter aroma.

Get a small piece of Brazil to your home with our roasted mate!

Questions & answers: Roasted mate leaves 500g
No search results.
You make a mate tea or infusion basically like most other teas: The mate leaves you pour over about 80 ° C hot water and let the whole thing, depending on the desired intensity, 3-5 minutes. You can put the leaves into a tea strainer or tea egg or simply strain them after infusion. We recommend that you use 5 teaspoons of our roasted mate leaves for 1 liter of tea. You can then drink the mate tea as a hot drink or serve it chilled with ice cubes for refreshment. You can also mix chai latte and mate tea for a special twist. Just experiment a bit to find the perfect combination of chai latte spice, oat milk or another plant-based drink, and mate.
Let's adjust our nerd glasses on our nose again for a moment: Tea as a beverage can, in the true sense of the word, only be made with parts of the tea plant. This includes black tea or white tea, for example. Mate does not belong here, because these are leaves of a holly. However, it has become common usage to say "tea" to beverages that are made with hot water and herbs or fruits. Actually, when we drink with mate leaves, we are dealing with a so-called infusion. In our assortment you can also find cut organic peppermint and whole organic chamomile flowers, from which you can make infusions. However, we have not neglected to offer you "real" tea as well: There we have black tea (Darjeeling) on the one hand and green tea on the other. Tea or infusion, whether you like it or not - you can also conjure up a tasty hot drink with our organic matcha.
Mate contains caffeine and should therefore not be consumed without restrictions. However, since we are not experts in this field, we recommend that you seek advice from your pediatrician!
Mate leaves are the leaves of the plant Ilex paraguariensis, native to South America. There, the infusion made with mate leaves is a real cultural asset. In regular ceremonies the Mate infusion is drunk. You can also make infusions with our mate leaves. The roasting that our mate has undergone intensifies the tart, almost bitter, earthy taste. In addition, mate leaves contain caffeine, which makes mate tea a popular stimulant.
It is best to store the roasted mate leaves in a cool and dry place. In the original sealed packaging, the mate leaves can be stored for at least 48 months from the time of production.
In this country, it is often more incorrectly referred to as "mate tea", but: No, mate is not a type of tea, consequently, mate can not be made into tea, but a so-called infusion. The difference? Okay, we'll spill the tea ... tea is derived exclusively from the tea plant. Thus, neither peppermint tea nor any kind of fruit tea is actually tea in the genuine sense. These are all infusions, but are almost always referred to as "tea" in common usage. As mentioned, mate comes not from the tea plant, but from the Ilex paraguariensis, a subspecies of holly native to South America. Now here's a little extra knowledge on top for the next know-it-all Tea Time or so. There are a total of 6 different types of tea, which are: black tea, white tea, green tea, yellow tea, oolong tea and Pu Erh tea.
Since mate leaves contain caffeine, mate infusion should not be consumed in excessive amounts. However, we are not experts in this field, so we recommend that you talk to your gynecologist about it!
Mate leaves do not naturally contain gluten. However, depending on the area of cultivation, unknowingly contamination with gluten-containing grain may occur during harvesting or processing. If you suffer from gluten intolerance or celiac disease, we advise you to seek medical advice in advance.
There is nothing more to say than: Yes, the mate leaves are vegan.
The dosage of mate depends above all on how intense you want your mate infusion to be. The following should serve as a guide: 5 heaped teaspoons to 1 liter of water. The intensity of the mate tea also depends on how long you steep the leaves in the water. Here, too, we can give you a guideline of 3-5 minutes.
