Everything at a glance Premium whole Tonka beans 100 g

You're probably wondering what this black, wrinkly - and admittedly somewhat unimpressive - bean is doing in our shop. As is often the case, it's the inner values that count, and these are immediately convincing with our premium tonka beans! Love at first bite, so to speak! Please do not bite directly on them, but cook them in desserts (such as porridge or rice pudding) grind them finely like nutmeg or process them into powder in a blender or mill.* The taste of the black beans is reminiscent of vanilla, with a hint of caramel, almond, marzipan and rum. If your mouth is watering just reading this, buy the aromatic, whole tonka beans in premium quality now and try them for yourself!

What are tonka beans and how are they grown?

Tonka beans are primarily grown in Venezuela, Trinidad, Africa and parts of the Amazon in Brazil (including our tonka beans), all the way to Colombia and Peru. The magnificent tonka tree with violet-pink flowers can grow up to 30 m high. After flowering, a mango-like fruit with a leathery skin and tasteless flesh grows from the so-called ovary. Inside is a single, almond-shaped seed - the tonka bean. It is grey-black and about two to five centimetres in size. It is hard to believe: Until the 1940's, the black bean was a common means of payment among the indigenous people in Venezuela. Even today, people appreciate the tonka bean not only for its taste and sometimes carry it in their wallets for good luck. Secure your own portion of luck now with our premium tonka beans.

"When you open the package, it smells seductively of the vanilla and marzipan-like tonka beans" - this is one comment from our customers. Another tonka fan speaks of "aromatic fireworks". Actually, we could let these statements stand on their own, - but of course we will give you more information: The tonka bean tastes similar to vanilla and is often used as a substitute for vanilla sugar in baking, cooking, in desserts or ice cream, but also in savoury dishes. The beans are very productive and therefore only a small amount is needed for seasoning. You can simply cook the whole bean or grind it into powder. Buy 100 g of aromatic premium tonka beans now and send your taste buds on a particularly delicious journey.

*Note: Tonka beans contain coumarin, which should only be consumed in small doses.  According to the European Food Safety Authority, a daily maximum of 0.1 mg per kilo of body weight should not be exceeded. We therefore recommend sparing use. For comparison: One kilogram of tonka beans contains approx. 30 mg coumarin.

What is the KoRo price chart?

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
  • Communication Icon

Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?

Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.
