Everything at a glance Organic sushi rice 5 kg
The words Maki, Sashimi and Nigiri make your heart skip a beat? Well, we have the perfect basis ingredient for you and your homemade sushi in our shop. The bulk pack is full of rice coming from organic agriculture in Italy – but there is much more to our rice!
There are huge differences between rice varieties. A newcomer to our shop, next to our brown and white Basmati rice, we are happy to welcome this round-grain classic in our KoRo family. The Italian kind is especially rich in starch, which leads to the rice being very sticky when you boil it; perfect for your sushi!
Our tip: Try using our sushi rice to make Pokè bowls, a new culinary trend. Coming from Hawaii, Pokè bowls are made with a base of rice and then topped with either fish or different vegetables.

Varieties and origins

Sushi rice
Sushi rice is one of the short-grain rice varieties, which differentiate themselves from long-grain rice varieties, such as jasmine or basmati rice, due to their higher starch content. The starch in sushi rice makes it very sticky. Its aroma is quite sweet.
Risotto rice
Also the risotto rice belongs to the short-grain family, and is therefore very sticky too. The characteristic creamy texture of dishes with risotto rice comes from its high starch content. Another peculiarity of this rice is that it doesn't easily lose its firm bite.
Brown rice
After being harvested and deprived of its husk, brown rice is not further processed and therefore contains significantly more vitamins, fibre, and other nutrients than conventional rice.
Pudding rice
The worldwide beloved rice pudding comes originally from Japan. The rice needed for making rice pudding has generally short, round, and soft grains. Instead than milk, Japanese make rice pudding with water, and serve it as a side dish.
Bomba rice
Also known as Valencia rice, this variety is mostly used in Spain to make paella. Its grains are very absorbent and is therefore perfect to obtain all the dishes' flavours. This variety is considered particularly aromatic and is characterized by its hardness and a very low proportion of starch. The rice retains its firmness during cooking, whereby the grains enlarge 2 to 3 times.
Black rice
Black rice gets its impressive colour from a natural pigmentation of the outer layers, and has a subtle nutty-sweet taste. The cooked black rice is firm to the bite and therefore adds to your dishes a special crunch.
Basmati rice
Basmati rice is a noble, very aromatic long-grain rice that is mainly grown in India and Pakistan. Its grains are long, narrow and hardly sticky. This fragrant rice is a central ingredient of oriental and Indian cuisines.
Patna rice
Patna rice is a grainy and firm long-grain rice from India. Its grains are thin and low in nutrients, and they remain comparatively hard even after cooking. This variety has no taste of its own and can therefore be used in a variety of ways.
Jasmine rice
Jasmine rice has a particularly high content of aromatic substances
Red rice
Red rice owes its charismatic colour to its predilection for clayey soils. It is very nutritious, and more resistant than conventional rice - but it is also more expensive. This variety has a very nutty taste and is therefore ideal for the preparation of rice salads.
Sadri rice
This variety is considered the best rice in the world. It consists of short, strong grains of a shiny white which, once cooked, have a soft, very creamy core and a fresh, floral aroma.
In total there are more than 100,000 different types of rice worldwide; it is therefore no wonder that rice is grown in more than 100 countries on all continents - except Antarctica. China and India lead the global production, but a lot of rice is also grown in other Asian countries and in South and North America, as well as in Europe. Depending on the variety, it takes between three and eight months until rice is ready to be harvested. After corn, rice is the world's most cultivated food.

What is the KoRo price chart?
In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles. -
Why is the price fluctuating?
Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers. -
Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?
Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

Organic sushi rice 5 kg - a look behind the scenes

Top quality, good price, sustainable.
Super sustainable sushi rice (because cultivation in Italy and no long transport routes), top quality, always succeeds in the rice cooker, perfect consistency (make mainly bowls). What is still top: bulk packaging saves frequent purchases and packaging waste.
