Red lentils are already an integral part of your Dals, and you celebrate green lentils as a great minced meat substitute? Then it is time to complete the traffic light. Just like red lentils, these little yellow legumes are in fact peeled green and brown lentils, and they do not only take less time to cook and are therefore ideal for lightning-fast lentil dishes, but also add colour and flavour to your kitchen. Give them a try!
What are yellow lentils?
Originally from India, where they are indispensable for the unofficial national dish Dal, yellow lentils are, just like red lentils, already peeled and need therefore less time to cook and get mushy. Red and yellow lentils are very popular for their resulting creamy texture, but have also a few differences between them: in contrast to the sweet and mild-tasting red lentils, yellow lentils have a heartier taste, and keep their beautiful yellow colour when cooked.
How to use yellow lentils?
Lentils are real all-rounders in the kitchen; valued for their uncomplicated preparation, they are a real staple food, especially in India and Pakistan, where the red and yellow version of this legume in particular are the basis for various traditional curries, and for the popular lentil dal. But lentils are part of many other countries' cuisines, like the Mexican one, where the small legumes are traditionally used to enrich soups and spicy stews. Tasty and versatile, lentils can even be served cold in delicious lentil salads, or added to summer vegetable bowls. Since our yellow lentils are already de-husked, they are also particularly suitable for further processing – for example into gluten-free* lentil flour, patties, or spreads; take a look at our Food journal section for more inspiration! In addition to their fantastic taste, lentils are particularly popular among vegans and vegetarians because of their high protein content.

What is the KoRo price chart?
In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles. -
Why is the price fluctuating?
Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers. -
Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?
Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

Questions about questions Organic split yellow lentils 2 kg
How should I cook these lentils?
As they are already peeled, you don't have to soak the yellow lentils. However, we recommend rinsing the peeled legumes with hot water before cooking them. Then put about double the amount of fresh water in a saucepan and cook the yellow lentils in it until the desired texture is achieved; the cooking time for yellow lentils is between 10 and 15 minutes and, since our yellow lentils are actually halves, their cooking time is even shorter. Exactly how long the yellow lentils should cook depends on how you plan to use the legumes: a shorter cooking time is recommended for a lentil salad or as a side dish with a bite, while for a creamy Dal, you should cook them a bit longer. Tip: adding salt to the water will make them less soft.
What is the difference between yellow and red lentils?
Both red and yellow lentils are peeled darker lentils, which we know as green or brown lentils. In contrast to the sweet and mild-tasting red lentils, yellow lentils have a heartier taste, and, thanks to their fine, nutty taste, are great to enrich soups and salads, to make delicious spreads, and as a base for aromatic Dals. Also, unlike their red cousin, yellow lentils keep their beautiful yellow colour when cooked.
Are yellow lentils high-protein?
Yes, with 25 grams of it per 100, yellow lentils are very high in plant-based protein, which can help you build and maintain muscle mass.
Are lentils vegan?
Yes, our organic yellow lentils are 100 % plant-based and free of animal products, and therefore vegan.
Do yellow lentils contain gluten?
Lentils are naturally gluten-free. However, cross-contamination with gluten can occur during the filling process, as our bottler also processes foods containing gluten, which is why we do not label our yellow lentils as gluten-free.
How long do these dry yellow lentils keep?
Unopened, these yellow lentils keep for at least two years after packaging; but their shelf life depends largely on the correct storage - cool and dry. If the dried lenses have passed their est-before date (BBD), not to be confused with the expiring date, there is no reason to blindly throw them away. The best-before date only states until when the properties of a food such as taste, smell, colour, texture, and nutritional value remain at least unchanged, therefore we generally recommend a visual inspection and, if necessary, an odour and taste test before consumption.
Are yellow lentils healthy?
The basis for a healthy life is a balanced and wholesome diet. Unprocessed and very high in protein and fibre, yellow lentils can therefore be a wonderful addition to a healthy diet. Proteins, for example, help maintain muscle mass and normal bones, and keep you full.
What can I make with yellow lentils?
There are so many dishes you can make with our yellow lentils! Like all other types of lentils, yellow lentils can be served as a side dish, used to enrich soups, stews, Dals and curries, and to make vegan patties. Like red lentils, yellow lentils are also a great meat replacement for a vegan Bolognese sauce, as they give it structure and a hearty taste. They can also be served cold as a lentil salad or bowl. Since our yellow lenses are small pieces of lens, they can be processed particularly well; try making patties and spreads like lentil hummus. Set no limits to your creativity!
