Everything at a glance Organic oat bran with germ

Wanna come over for some extra healthy and delicious porridge? With less carbs and calories, more protein than regular oats, and just as tasty in flavour as the traditional alternative, oat bran has become a popular food over the last few years. But what's so special about this powder, exactly? Oat bran is made by grinding oat's thin skin - the husk - which covers the inner endosperm, the fruit skin, and the germ, into a fine powder. But what can you do with oat bran?

Prepare oat bran easily

The most common dish containing oat bran is breakfast porridge. Cooking your oat bran with some hot water, you will obtain a wonderfully creamy porridge which you can top with fresh fruit, nuts, granola, and your favourite plant-based milk or yoghurt. But that’s not all: oat bran also performs well as baking ingredient in your bread, buns, cookies, cake and muffins, and provides you an extra portion of fibre. Some even say you can also use it for making pasta or pancakes, but we haven’t tried it out ourselves yet - which is why we can’t officially confirm this. Apart from its cooking properties, oat bran is quite versatile, for example for making face masks and peelings. But back to the food topic: why is oat bran so popular?

Health benefits of oat bran

With four tablespoons oat bran you already consume 3 grams of beta-glucan. Beta-glucan is a soluble fibre which helps maintain a normal cholesterol level in the blood. Moreover, consuming beta-glucan from oat bran makes the blood sugar level increase less quickly after the meal. Finally the oat-fibre may increase stool volume and provide an easier digestion. KoRo oat bran is untreated, without additives and very durable.

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
