Rice and shine! Every day, there are more new possibilities for your dinner. You could make a pumpkin and chickpea curry with rice and cashews. Or a spicy Mexican rice. Or fried rice. Or, well, we've made our point. We are huge rice fans. But we are also KoRo, meaning we have a weakness for creating new products. Along with real classics, such as our organic Basmati rice, Jasmine rice and risotto rice, we now present our lentil flour orzo!

Looks like rice, tastes like pasta

You can call it what you want: the flavourful product is called kritharaki, orzo or manestra in Greece while Italians prefer risoni or risi. It is also often called Greek pasta in other countries. Traditionally, orzo is made from wheat flour semolina and water, but you know we like to try out new things :). We used legumes for our orzo, more specifically, 100 % lentil flour. This gives the pasta a lot of power, with 3 times more protein than conventional white rice* (26 g/100 g) and 4 times more fibre**! Convincing on all fronts!

Using orzo pasta as a rice substitute

Preparing orzo is very easy: use 1 litre of lightly salted water for 100 g of orzo. Bring the water to a boil, add the orzo and stir occasionally until you reach the desired consistency (5-6 minutes should be enough). Then drain the pasta and that's it: you have a tasty rice substitute!

Tasty rice recipes with orzo

And we get to the daily food question once again. Our lentil flour orzo can be prepared in many different ways. Make a vegetable coconut curry with peanut butter or an easy winter curry for the cold days of the year. Sometimes, a simple fried rice with some vegetables, tofu and tomato sauce also does the trick. Our rice alternative is great both as a main course as well as a side dish. Try it and taste for yourself!

Buy KoRo's chickpea flour orzo

No matter if you choose to be vegetarian, vegan or omnivore, our orzo are here for everyone! They also smuggle 3 times more protein and 4 times more fibre into your diet than conventional white rice. From now on, you'll always have something tasty in the cupboard! Buy our lentil flour orzo now and let your creativity run wild!

Questions & answers: Organic lentil flour orzo 1 kg
Above all, a balanced and varied diet is healthy. We therefore find it difficult to divide food per se into good, bad, healthy and unhealthy. As always: 'Balance is key'! Our rice alternative made from lentil flour can be used as a protein-rich supplement in your diet.
Our risoni made from lentil flour contains 26 grams of protein per 100 grams. For orientation: Conventional rice normally provides about 6.8 grams. So you get with the Risoni at the same weight more than 3 times the amount of protein.
For 100 grams of Risoni, bring a liter of water to a boil with a pinch of salt. Then add the rice alternative and stir occasionally until they have reached your preferred bite strength. This should be the case after about 5-6 minutes. Then drain the water, drain the pasta, and they're ready to go!
Our Risoni have a shelf life of at least 24 months immediately after production, if stored in the best conditions. But keep in mind that this is only the best before date and not the use by date.
Risoni are traditionally made from durum wheat semolina and water. Means translated: Looks like rice and tastes like pasta. So with our legume risoni, you can look forward to the slightly nutty, unique taste of lentil pasta. But we score not only in terms of taste, but also smuggle a source of fiber (5.9 g / 100 g) with high protein content (26 g / 100 g) in your food.
In our rice substitute comes only lentil flour. Soaked and cooked lentils are often used in dog food or treats. The Risoni are therefore at least not toxic for your pelt nose. Nevertheless, we would rather recommend our premium dry dog food.
100 grams of uncooked Risoni contain 355 kcal. You can also read all the nutritional values on the packaging and next to or under the product description.
On 100 g there are 26 grams of protein, 5.9 grams of fiber and 56 grams of carbohydrates. If you want to know more, take a look at our nutrition table next to or below the product description.
For the cold days we recommend you something warm, like the pumpkin and chickpea curry with rice and cashew nuts or Mexican rice. When it's warmer outside, you can prepare a rice salad with vegetables. You will definitely find the right oil in our cooking oils category. But thanks to the short cooking time, you are always well served with a quick freestyle recipe. How about a delicious rice-vegetable pan with egg and chicken (or soy cutlets for the veggies out there).
