Everything at a glance Organic agar agar 500 g

An integral part of many delicacies such as fruit gums, frothy desserts and even some sauces, gelatine does not go well with a vegan diet! Regardless of whether you follow a plant-based diet or are simply not a fan of gelatine, now we have something for you: agar agar powder. What sounds like a baby's first words at first is a purely vegetable gelling and binding agent, and the ideal alternative to animal gelatine. Agar agar can be used in a variety of ways and you only need very small quantities of it per dish - so if you buy our agar agar in the practical 500 g value pack, you will have enough for a long list of recipes!

Directly from the sea

But what is agar agar, anyway? The product with this strange name is a carbohydrate that is extracted from the cell walls of various types of algae. The finished powder is particularly suitable for gelling hot liquids, as it has to be boiled to become a gel. It becomes liquid at temperatures above 95 ° C and then solidifies again at around 45 ° C when it cools down. Although the powder is obtained from algae, it is completely tasteless and therefore ideal for preparing your favourite fruit spreads, cake toppings, or other dishes and desserts. Especially as a vegan and vegetarian substitute for gelatine, our agar agar makes a wonderful thickening agent for soups or binding agent for many different sauces. Say goodbye to unsatisfying textures! With our agar agar powder you will always have the optimal consistency, and completely plant-based!

Nothing new in Japan!

What is still something extraordinary for us in Europe has belonged in every well-equipped kitchen cupboard in Japan since the 17th century. In order to use as little gelatine as possible, the agar agar has long been a staple in Asian cuisine, but is getting more and more popular on our continent too! Think you've never seen agar agar on any ingredient list? Next time, look out for the name E406, which is what the food additive powder is also known as. The agar agar powder is super practical and can be used very sparingly: to thicken 200 ml of liquid, you only need ¼ teaspoon of it.

Fun fact: agar agar also has a completely different use – namely in microbiology. On Petri dishes, the carbohydrate of the alga also serves as a breeding ground for the cultivation of bacterial strains.

Buy our agar agar powder!

Vegan or not, you should get your hands on our agar agar, with which you can now create perfect plant-based desserts and sauces. But our agar agar powder is not just completely vegan, but is made of 100% pure agar agar obtained entirely under certified organic conditions. Without the addition of colourings or preservatives, once ready, the powder goes straight into our practical value packs, and makes its way into your kitchen cupboard. What are you waiting for? Buy our agar agar powder now in a convenient 500 g bag and get ready for a cooking marathon!

What is the KoRo price chart?

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
  • Communication Icon

Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?

Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.
