Almonds - nuts or kernels?

In a world in which peanuts count as legumes and tomatoes as fruits, it's not surprising that almonds are officially not nuts, but kernels. The almond tree (Prunus dulcis) is part of the rose family, but in botanical terms, almonds are classified as drupes. And almonds have been cultivated for over 4000 years, isn't that amazing? The almond originated in the eastern Mediterranean region. Nowadays, they are mainly grown in California, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Australia and Chile.

Recipes with ground almonds

There are countless ways to use our ground almonds! They are great for baking all types of cookies and cakes; substitute them in for walnuts in this banana bread or make your own delicious energy balls. These ground almonds have so much talent in them, and this is not limited to sweet dishes. They can also be oven or pan roasted, give your home-made bread that nutty kick or be the star of your almond pesto.

By the way: if you don't have enough flour for your bread, you can mix the ground almonds in a 1:1 ratio with regular flour for delicious results.

  • Price Graph Icon

What is the KoRo price chart?

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
  • Communication Icon

Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?

Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

Questions about questions Ground almonds 1 kg

FAQ-Bereich durchsuchen:

Do almonds contain gluten?

No, almonds are naturally gluten-free, and are therefore perfectly safe to eat for people who suffer from celiac disease.

What is so special about KoRo's ground almonds?

Our ground almond kernels are true all-rounders. They refine any desserts and are excellent for baking. But ground almonds can also enrich savoury dishes such as pesto or nut bread. As if that were not enough, the ground kernels are a true source of vegetable protein (21 g / 100 g) and have a high fibre content (13 g / 100 g). They taste nutty and pleasantly sweet. Impressive what a ground kernel can do, isn't it?

Are almond flour and ground almonds the same thing?

No. Ground almonds are, as the name suggests, almonds that have been ground. almond flour, on the other hand, is usually a by-product of extracting almond oil. This removes fat from the almond flour. A look at the nutritional values of both products clearly shows the difference: while almond flour has about 13 g of fat per 100 g, the fat content of ground almonds is about 50 g per 100 g. Another difference is the fineness. Almond flour has a very fine texture, whereas ground almonds are somewhat coarser.

How many calories do 100 g of ground almonds have?

100 g of our ground blanched almond kernels have 579 kcal. You can find the exact nutritional values next to the product description and on the product packaging. Despite the relatively high calorie density, don't get the idea to cut out fats from your diet - they' re important, you hear?

Are almond kernels healthy?

First and foremost, a balanced and wholesome diet is healthy. Our ground almond kernels can contribute to a healthy diet as a source of protein (21 g / 100 g). Proteins contribute, for example, to the maintenance of muscle mass and normal bones.

Do our ground almonds have a lot of protein?

Yes, our ground almonds are a source of protein with 21 g per 100 g of nuts.

Are the almond kernels vegan?

Sure! Except for the ground almond kernels, there is literally nothing in our bag, so they come without any animal ingredients.

What is the best way to store the almond kernels?

To keep your almond kernels for as long as possible, store them in a cool, dry place and protect them from heat.

What is the shelf life of the ground almonds?

Ground almonds can be kept for 12 months after packaging in their original packaging. It is best to check the best-before date on the product label. The best-before date should not be confused with the use-by date. If the use-by date is exceeded, food should no longer be consumed. The best-before date, on the other hand, only indicates until when a food product's properties such as taste, smell, colour, consistency and nutritional value remain at least unchanged - as long as it is stored closed in the original packaging. The motto for checking whether your ground almonds have expired is therefore: see, smell, taste.

Do the ground almond kernels contain gluten?

Almonds are naturally gluten-free. However, cross-contamination with gluten can occur during the filling process, as our supplier also processes foods containing gluten. For this reason, we do not describe our ground almonds as gluten-free.

Can I eat ground almonds during pregnancy?

Yes - even during pregnancy, almonds can contribute to a healthy diet. If you have any concerns, it is best to talk to your doctor again.

Can my dog eat almonds?

We cannot recommend giving your dog almonds. Although they are not poisonous, they can cause health problems such as stomach aches. If you are looking for a suitable food for your four-legged friend, you are welcome to take a look at our dog food range.

Very tasty also as a flour substitute!

With these almonds I succeed the best breads and the tastiest keto pizza. But also for breading fish, meat and vegetables, the ground almonds are excellent. They stick well without being dry and have a wonderful taste. :-)
Because of the good quality, large quantities and therefore less packaging and the prices, I order especially nuts and seeds exclusively from Koro.

Delicious almonds, but the new packaging is unsuitable.

Unfortunately, the new packaging material for the ground almonds is not as stable as the previous, so that this time the bag is torn open and a part of the ground almonds trickled into the box - Too bad! Please best change again to the more stable material, saving plastic does not offer itself at this point.
The almonds themselves are again delicious.

Great value for money

Attention hobby bakers and muesli lovers. The ground almonds are qualitative and inexpensive. The grind is a little finer than the packages from the supermarket.
