This watermelon "tuna" looks confusingly similar to the real tuna. Sounds unusual at first, but tastes very good. If you fancy a vegan tuna alternative, you should definitely try this recipe!

1 UNIT Watermelon, ripe and medium size
2 tbsp. Rice vinegar
2 Tsp. Tahini
3 tbsp. Soy sauce
1 tbsp. Salt
1 UNIT Juice of one lemon
1 tbsp. Sriracha
1 UNIT Garlic cloves
20 g Ginger
3 tbsp. Sesame oil
1 Tsp. Chiliflocken
  • Step 1/8

    Preheat the oven to 180°C.

  • Step 2/8

Line a baking tray with baking paper

  • Step 3/8

Peel the watermelon and cut into 4x4x2.5cm "steaks".

  • Step 4/8

Salt the watermelon "steaks" and then spread them evenly on the baking sheet lined with baking paper.

  • Step 5/8

Bake the "steaks" in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

  • Step 6/8

Meanwhile, prepare the marinade: Finely puree all ingredients with the help of a (hand) blender.

  • Step 7/8

Remove the baked "steaks" from the oven, cover with the marinade and let sit in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours (but preferably overnight) to allow the marinade to soak in.

  • Step 8/8

Heat a non-stick skillet and sear the watermelon "steaks" for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy.
