Affected product:
Organic tahini 500 g, with the best-before date 06.03.2022
We urge you to not consume this product and to read this carefully!
Reason for the product recall:
As part of our quality and safety standard checks on our manufacturer, the internal quality assurance department of KoRo Handels GmbH was informed that the above mentioned product contains a too high residue of the pesticide ethylene oxide.
Pesticide ethylene oxide:
Ethylene oxide is a plant protection product (pesticide) that is not approved in the EU and is used to protect food such as oil seeds from harmful organisms or pathogens. A high dosage of the substance, used in gaseous form, can cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea in people.
Because of these possible side effects, the use of ethylene oxide as a plant protection product is prohibited in the EU.
The raw material for our tahini, sesame, comes from India; for goods imported to the EU from other countries, the substance's traces which are permitted by the law are low and fixed.
Did you buy this product?
For this reason, the products concerned are not suitable for consumption. We have been informed by our supplier that the maximum permitted level of ethylene oxide in the sesame paste has been exceeded; therefore, as a preventive consumer protection measure, we have decided to recall the tahini jars with the expiration date mentioned above.
Any other tahini with a different best-before date can most certainly be excluded from contamination.
If you should feel uncomfortable after consuming it, please consult a doctor. As a precaution, also inform friends and acquaintances who may have also eaten the tahini. This is just a precautionary measure.
What now?
These products are being withdrawn from sale, so that not further damage can be done.
Every customer who has purchased the affected product in the online shop will be contacted by email.
If you have bought or received one of the above-mentioned affected products, we ask you to send us a picture of it with its legible best-before date in response to our email, and then to dispose of the tahini.
Production and checking:
KoRo is certified with IFS Broker, one of the highest certifications in the food sector. This means that we are only allowed to work with companies that adhere to high quality standards and, as a company, we also have to take appropriate precautions and respect standard processes that ensure the high quality of our products. Unfortunately, such cases can still occur from time to time, regardless of how strong the control system is.
We will learn from this, and put our tahini under special observation in the future.
This recall has no affect on the quality of the other products that we have in our range.
