Cooking red lentils: easy, fast and extremely tasty

Red lentils are the sprinters among lentils, since no other lentil variety is ready as fast. You don't have to soak them before cooking. Simply rinse them thoroughly and add them to a pot with twice the amount of water. Let cook for 15 to 20 minutes, the cooking time will depend on how mushy you enjoy your lentils. After you've found your preferred consistency, add a touch of salt and the spices of your liking – and your quick lentils are ready!

Lentil soups, stews and salads

You can use the lentils as a main dish - or you can use them as an ingredient in your recipe. We have plenty of inspiration for this: starting with the classic lentil soup, we also have mango and lentil dhal or lentil and quinoa salad in our Food Journal. The red legumes are also a great ingredient to make fritterspancakes or even sweet porridge! Feel free to click through the many delicious recipes from the KoRo community under the 'Blog posts' tab and discover the next recipe that will not only inspire you, but your whole family.

Questions & answers: Organic red lentils 2kg

The country of origin of our red lentils is Turkey. In a field, the plant would probably not even catch your eye, because it is neither red, nor particularly conspicuous. The pure cultivation of lentils is quite risky, because the plants are not very stable and easily break down, especially during heavy rainfall during flowering and ripening. That is why they are usually grown in mixtures with cereals such as barley or oats.
Red lentils are often used in recipes for baby porridge, usually from 8-9 months. However, please check with the nutritionist or your pediatrician before consumption.
Hold on tight, the nutritional values for the lentils are really impressive: 100 g of uncooked lentils contain 26 g of protein and thus have a high protein content. In addition, they have a whole 12 g of fiber and are with 1.5 g fat even low.
You don't need to soak red lentils before cooking. Just wash them briefly and then it's time to prepare. Put them in a pot with twice the amount of water and cook for 15-20 minutes. The cooking time can vary, depending on how "mushy" you like them :) Finally, add a pinch of salt and spices to taste - and the quick dish is ready!
Red lentils are not an optimal food for your dog, because they affect the digestion and can cause flatulence. If you have any questions about it, we recommend that you seek advise from your veterinarian.
There are many different types of lentils. In addition to red lentils, you can find yellow lentils, brown plate lentils and brown lentils.
If you rarely eat legumes or whole foods, you may sometimes notice the consumption of red lentils in your digestion. Normally, however, the body gets used to the food. However, if you have an intolerance, we advise you not to eat lentils.
A balanced and varied diet is ultimately decisive for healthy or unhealthy. Our red lentils score with their nutritional values and the protein content of 26% per 100 grams. In addition, they come in organic quality to your home and are also delicious in curries, soups or lentil dhal.
100 grams of red lentils have 348 calories when uncooked.

Climate impact

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.

CO₂ emissions by product

To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

Red lentils

Our red lentils come from Turkey, and are, most of the times, peeled brown mountain lentils. With a width of 3 to 4 mm, they have a warm colour that can go from pink to orange and bright red. Their taste is sweet and delicate.

Around 6.3 million tons of lentils were harvested worldwide in 2018. Canada is the first producer with around 3.3 million tons, and India is the second, harvesting approximately 1.1 million tons in 2018. Edible lentils are grown almost everywhere in the world. Particularly popular varieties are red lentils, mountain lentils, beluga lentils and puy lentils.

Good lenses, poorer but well-intentioned packaging.

Usual quality of the lenses, but they didn't come in the plastic packaging as shown in the picture, but in paper packaging with a plastic coating that can't be disposed of separately. For me, this has always been a dubious outer packaging that has not survived transportation. This didn't hurt the lenses, but it's still worth mentioning.
